Venue Comments

Jonathan Morris opened the second Summer Gardens on 26 December 1906, and from January 1907 W. H. Pilkington screened films there. In May 1908 Morris opened Hippodrome, Kalgoorlie (beside and behind the hotel) which was described as a skating rink, and was screening films in winter, while the Summer Gardens continued in summer. Both venues were screening King's Pictures in the middle of 1909, until the new King's Hall (like the Summer Gardens, attached to the hotel) was opened in April 1910. From 1910 King's Hall and the Summer Gardens continued to be advertised in tandem, till the advent of the Post Office Gardens in central Hannan St in November 1912. (Bertrand 2001)
