Travelling shows originally screened in the Temperance Hall (1878) as well as the Town Hall. The Pararmount Theatre opened in the rebuilt Temperance Hall in 1923. The venue under went rmajor enovations in 1934. Wearne and Rowan became proprietors of the venue from 1935 to circa 1964. It was later sold to council who demolished the theatre to construct a multi-purpose art facility known as the 'Paramount Arts Activity Centre', opening in 1979. During this time it was used by the local film society. The venue closed again in 2000. The Paramount cinema and Performing Complex opened in 2001.

The Paramount Cinema has three dedicated cinemas and four additional auditoriums which can also screen films. Seating goes as follows: 169, 103, 102, 393.
