The theatre was built by Jack G Scott and opened December 01, 1948. The theatre closed in 1984 and was used as an indoor market for sometime.

It re-opened in 1997 as a twin cinema run and by the family Robert and Sue Gemmell. On April 10, 2010 the theatre was destroyed by a fire.
