The combined Theatre Royal and Mechanics' Institute (former Free Library) Camperdown. The Mechanics' Institute was built in 1890.The Theatre Royal, which replaced an earlier timber hall, was built later at the rear of the Institute. According to newspaper reports the Theatre Royal opened March 9 1934. Proprietors noted at this time as Messrs C Odium and R. Chilton. (Other records refer to theatre opening in 1927-8). The venue is still operating as a theatre
