The original Lyric theatre was known as the Olympia's Skating Rink later converted into a live theatre venue and called the Lyceum. "February 28 of 1911 Messrs. Wallis an dGuidice, the proprietors of His Majesty'd West's Pictures announced that they had leased the premises, formerly known as the Olympia Skating rink. With extensive alterations being carried out to reseat and decorate in first class style and transform it into a modern picture house, and it will in future be known as the Lyric Photo Plays. The transformation was carried out by Mr. Ed Branscombe and opened on Wednesday, 12 April 1911" (Purden 1997)

In February 1913 the directors of the Lyric announced the opening of the new Lyric Theatre at Charing Cross on February 2.

The Lyric closed briefly in 1930 from September 21 and re-opening October 4. Capacity had been reduced to 1600. The Lyric closed again in December 1934, re-opening boxing day

Installed Cinemascope in 1954. Closed in 1965
