Globe Theatre was built in 1926 by William Lawrence and Sons and was used mainly for concerts, dances, ball, private and public functions. It was bought by the Shire Council in 1946 and from 1948 the first movies were shown in the theatre. The arrival of television caused a decline and it eventually finished in 1958. By 1990 the Globe was handed over to the Winchelsea Lions Club. (Saunders, p. 9)
