Venue Comments

According to Catrice, this venue was located at 103 Union Road and operated in the Surrey Hall (101-105 Union Road) until September 1939.

"The Surrey Hall (which is still standing) became the Rex Theatre and sound pictures were introduced. The exhibitor Robert Mitchell saw the potential for a purpose built theatre. He joined forces with the principals of the local real estate business Dimmick and Long and with Master Builder Len Rossiter to form the partnership that would build and run the new theatre." (Hall, p. 20) -reference to Surrey Theatre, Surrey Hills as new theatre for Surrey Hills.
