The Argus (June 8 1925, p.11) reports " Moving pictures were shown for the first time in the Canterbury Memorial Hall, Canterbury road, on Saturday evening by Messrs D. R. A Caney and A. D. Burgoyne, who have leased the building as a picture theatre. The lease will expire at the end of 20 years. The new theatre was officially opened by the mayor of Camberwell (Councillor A. E Hocking)."
