Venue Comments

The original St George's hall opened on June 6, 1891 on the corner of Birmingham Street and Murray Street. According to Mc Guire (1998) in 1910 the Company Dank & Co ran moving picture shows, but faced a few problems following complaints. In 1913 a new addition was built to face onto Birmingham St and it began use as a full time cinema, until closure in 1958. Also known as Picture Palace and St. George's Hall.

Operation dates based on Catrice data (Catrice, p. 230)

1946/7-1952/3 = 900
1953/4-1957/8 = 910
1958/9 = 1100

In 2008, the auditorium was demolished leaving only the facade.
