Venue Comments

The Village theatre closed in 1958. In 1963 a fire destroyed the original buillding. The Trak cinema opened in 1969, incorporated into the basement of the new building. It became known as a arthouse cinema. Closed in 2001. Still used for the occasional screenings

"The Village became an early casualty of television in Melbourne and the phenomenon of the Drive In. It closed after screening the Bolshoi Ballet on 31 December 1958." (Kennedy, p. 20)

Despite the name, it never had any connection to Village Theatres or Village/Warner.
