The Lyric began as the Lyric Summer Gardens Pictures open air theatre in 1912, adjacent to Paradise Picture Gardens, St Kilda. In 1913 it was converted to a hardtop and reopened in May 1913 under Callen and Stuart. It closed around 1922. The old Lyric reopened as the Earl's Court Theatre in the early thirties and screened films for a few years.
