According to Flint and Tod (2007) that this venue opened as the Palais Theatre on 23 Jan 1922. The Palais was converted into the Strand Theatre by Glenelg Theatres, and reopened on 8 July 1927. On 01 May 1947 the Glenelg Strand and Seaview Theatres came under the Greater Union controlled Star Circuit, with the purchase of Glenelg Theatres Ltd. In 1956 the theatre closed for renovations and reopened as the Odeon. Closed again in 1967. reopened 1967 as the Village Cinema. Finally closed in 1980.

References
Australasian Cinema (19 December 1980, p. 46.) reports the Village Cinema, Glenelg would not reopen at cristmas. All equipment pertaining to the cinema would be removed in November.
