Centenary Hall was built as a dance hall but was showing films by March 1934 (Smith 2003). From 1937 -1941 the lessee is noted as Frank Cross. From 1942-47 the Lawrence Bros leased the venue. According to Smith (2003) the next tenant was the Australian Playhouse. The Verne continued to be listed in the Film Weekly directories until 1951.
