Venue Comments

According to Cunningham(1995) the Pender's Horseshoe Nail Factory was one of the first cinema venues in Brunswick. It was run by Ruben Keirrl. Keirrl screened a cinema picture of the Jack Johnson and Tommy Burns fight in Sydney. In 1911 Tommy Sangston carried on showing films and renamed the venue the Oxford Theatre also constructing a new foyer so the public did not have to enter through the factory doors. Pictures were held every Sunday night. Admission was 3d for adults, and 1d for children. Sangston only ran for a couple of years.
