In 1942, Kirby's Theatres Pty. Ltd partially built the Roxy Theatre on Ballarat Road, Maidstone but it was taken over by the Naval Armaments Board until October 1943. The theatre was officially opened on 19 May 1945 with the screening of Yankee Doodle Dandy. (Mc Goldrick, p. 173)
