Located in the south Sydney district of Maroubra Junction. The Amusu Theatre was built and operated by two Americans, Amos Hinton and Arthur Hennessey and opened in December 1921 with seating for 1,508 patrons. State records show an application for re-modeling in 15th May 1929, to the plans of architect C.B. Gray.
The Amusu Theatre was further revamped in an Art Deco style in 1940. By 1951 it was operated by Eastern Suburbs Cinemas chain.
Closed on 13th June 1958 with “Davy” and Cornel Wilde in “The Devils Hairpin”. It was demolished and a petrol station was built on the site, which closed in 1979. This too has now been demolished and replaced by the usual large block of flats.
