The Australian Hall was originally built in 1901 as the Concordia Club, a meeting place for the German community. It opened on 20th December 1911 as a live theatre, known as Australian Hall. It became the Phillip Theatre in 1961, when the Phillip Street Theatre moved into the building. It was later re-named Richbrooke Theatre. In 1974, it was converted into a cinema, known as the Rivoli Theatre, opening with Peter Sellers in “The Optimists of Nine Elms”.
Later name changes include Mandarin Cinema, screening Chinese films, and it was last operated as the Mandolin Cinema, screening independent and repertory films.
It was closed in the early-2000’s.
