The Oaks Flat Progress Association Hall was used by Wollongong-based travelling exhibitor, Sandor Berenyi for the screening of 16mm film throughout 1953 and into 1954 (Parkinson 1995, p.111).

After a three year cessation of film screenings the cinema reopened under the name of the Olympic Theatre. 16mm continued to be used until April 1964. At this time the picture shows ceased as a result of complaints from police regarding the size of the projection box. According to Parkinson (1995, p.116) the closure drew a bitter response from community members particularly the youth who marched in protest.

The cinema reopened in December 1964 after being refitted and licenced for the exhibition of 35mm film. Regular screenings continued for a further two years however the cinema was forced to close around November 1966 due to declining popularity (Parkinson 1995, p.116).

The hall, renamed as the Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre, continues to be used by the community for a range of different activities.
