From June 1908, live musical entertainments were being advertised at the Palace Gardens. In 1910 it bacame a skating rink. From 1911 films screened on Tuesdays and Thursdays and skating on Wednesday and Saturday.

In 1912 Palace Gardens was roofed and became known as the Palace Theatre. The Palace closed for renovations in May 1929 and re-opened a year later.
On March 11 1931 the venue was renamed and opened as the Capitol Theatre. The venue was sold in 1969.
