Built upon the old Glideway open air skating rink, The Casino was run by Daylight Pictures Ltd and consisted of a Riding Gallery and bio-box and optical stae that would play films outside during the day, something considered a novelty at the time. On October 31, 1914 The Casino was renamed the Comedy Theatre and showcased comedies. By January 1915, John Garvin owned the theatre until it closed on July 15, 1915.
The theatre was then used as a lounge for returning servicemen until it was bought by the Phillips' in 1920 and turned into a dance hall. The hall was taken over by the Army again in April 1942. After the war the Army then returned the hall- along with a payment of 70,000 pounds- which was spent on renovations, allowing the Palais de Danse to reopen in October 1953.
As the Palais de Danse grew in popularity a reception room, the Stardust, was added in 1962, overlooking Port Phillip Bay.
On December 27, 1968 both the Palais de Danse and the Stardust were destroyed in a fire.
