"It was a live venue, with various entertainments available in the gardens setting, and a section for theatrical performances which was part-roofed in 1897 to allow the season to extend. On 11 January 1906 the Theatre Gardens re-opened after a long break, under the direction of Gerald Shaw. From February 1906, travelling film exhibitors screened there occasionally, for instance the Great American Vitascope Co from 10-17 February 1906, and the Ada Delroy Co with the London Bioscope in April that year. These screenings were conducted in competition with others at the Town Hall and the Princess Pavilion. The Cremorne Gardens was damaged by fire in 1910 and never returned to use as a motion picture venue." (Bertrand 2001) |
