Exhibitor: 1945 - 1948 Alwyn Cobden Jones

The Gerringong School of Arts was erected in 1883 and from that date until the present has played host to a variety of communal activities. Travelling picture shows are known to have made use of the hall on an occasional basis from the early years of the twentieth century. In 1945 Alwyn Cobden Jones sought and was granted a lease to exhibit films on a regular basis. This arrangement remained in place until 1948 when the cinema moved to the newly erected Gerringong Town Hall and the School of Arts returned to its former usage (Parkinson 2005, p. 5).
