Construction of the Armidale Town Hall finished in 1882. The hall was licenced to exhibit films from 1909 although moving pictures are known to have been shown at the site from at least the early years of the twentieth century. Regular film exhibition had ceased by 1925. The venue reverted to its former usage as a public meeting place, concert hall and theatre (Thorne, Tod & Cork 1996, 243).
