Originally built around 1865. Re-opened after major renovations as the New Mechanics Institute and Theatre in 1893. References(Thorne) suggest Biograph Moving Picture Machine demonstrations were given in the theatre in 1908 and in 1910. West's Pictures were screening every Wednesday.

Albury Amusements registration notice published in the Argus, June 6 1934. The Mechanics Institute Theatre re-named the Plaza in 1934. Operated as a cinema until 1937.

Colonel J.W. Wilkinson noted as the president of the Albury Mechanics Institute for 46 years (Argus 1935)

On April 30 1937, Albury Amusements advertised the final program in its Plaza theatre:
"Tonight and this afternoon will see the final presentations of our attractions in the Plaza Theatre. To our Plaza patrons we offer our thanks for past patronage and extend a hearty welcome to one and all at our new address"

Theatre continues to operate for community use post 1937.
